Abstract | Recent studies in Drosophila have identified a single JAK and a single STAT protein. Genetic and biochemical analyses reveal that these two proteins operate in the same signal transduction pathway. Phenotypic analyses of JAK and STAT mutants implicate this pathway in a number of developmental decisions, in particular the regulation of pair-rule genes and fly hematopoiesis. |
